How was the accommodation?
There is no upkeep of the houses or the areas around, no grass cutting etc. you might see 1 or more snakes in the summer time.

How was the level of supervision and teaching?
Supervision is mostly poor. Except in paeds & ortho which are more structured. You are always on call with a senior Dr either in EC/maternity. They won’t review your patients/teach you/guide you unless you approach them directly. Some will give you questionable advice though so double check the EML.

How was the clinical exposure?
Elim has a wide variety of pathology. You will see and do a lot. If you are hands on you will come out confident in most procedures.

Was any of the following available?
Yes - X-Rays, Blood Gas Machines, Ultrasounds, NHLS.

Academics available?
Elim is accredited for some diplomas but you are on your own. Mostly all MOs are comfortable with being MOs, there are no consultants so you’d have to push yourself.

Did you have a social life? What kept you busy/entertained?
The work day ends at 16:30, you’ll mostly be done by 12-13. Lots of time to get to know your fellow colleagues. You work 1 weekend so you have 3 other weekends in the month to explore Limpopo and it’s beauties.

Any general comment/advice?
Read. No one will pester you with questions so it’s easy to be laid back and mismanage patients.
